Montpelier Duty-Bound to Nullify

The Vermont Legislature is bound not only by its duty to the people that they pledge to represent, but by the Vermont Constitution… to nullify federal interference in the freedom of Vermonters. This includes our freedom to grow the crops that we wish, where and when we wish, to distribute, process our food and to educate others in the wisdom and skills of local food.

Vermont Food Sovereignty, and a Resolution to Protect it

Why should Vermonters care about food sovereignty? Don’t we do what we wanna – trade seeds, plant gardens, drink raw milk, butcher our farm animals and wild-caught game? We all have to eat – but that’s where the federal government is now stepping in. What Vermonters do is not good enough; it’s not part of a system.

The solution to the ‘business problem’ posed by VT Yankee defenders, is clear. Collect the tax on the surface water used by TransCanada on Vermont’s dams to produce power for Massachusetts. Eliminate all regulatory barriers to local energy development. Collect the unpaid $7.6 million yearly tax on Entergy’s use of surface water for cooling.
